Aarhus municipality is building a new stadium, which the Super League club AGF will play on in the future. A stadium in 'world class', as politicians in the city have called it. From the start, the construction has been one of the most expensive municipal construction projects in recent times. But soft soil, politicians' wishes for an even more expensive design and AGF's VIP facilities have driven up the price. Since December 2022, the bill has risen from 650 million kr. to 994 million kr. And it is the taxpayers in Aarhus who have to pay the price. At the same time, the project in Aarhus has had four different directors over the past five years. The municipal councillors and the mayor said nothing when they were informed that the price had risen. The responsibility for the construction has been placed in a management group with two municipal councillors and Jacob Bundsgaard. When Aarhus Municipality is the builder, it is the entire municipal council that has the responsibility for ensuring that the construction is handled properly. The lawyer's investigation shows that the responsible politicians were warned again and again that their financial framework would never hold. But maybe the politicians in Aarhus should have known that the price could rise. Because the architectural firm that has designed the new stadium has a track record of expensive projects. The money comes from the citizens, and it happens after a year with historically difficult budget negotiations, which ended with severe cutbacks in areas such as schools. The price of the construction is still rising, and in the spring of 2025, the municipal politicians in Aarhus will have to find savings.
